During the Galactic Civil War, Hoth was the site of the Rebel Alliance’s Echo Base. Hoth was dangerous, not only because it was an icy planet, but also because it was home to the carnivorous wampa. Shortly before the Battle of Hoth, Luke Skywalker was attacked by a wampa while scouting the Hoth ice wastes with his tauntaun. The wampa feasted on the tauntaun after hanging Luke from the ceiling of its cave. Luke used the Force to retrieve his lightsaber, and used it to cut off the wampa’s arm. The wampa’s cave is now preserved in the Hoth Ice Cave National Park.
