In the 1972 classic The Godfather, Amerigo Bonasera was a Sicilian undertaker whose daughter was assaulted and badly beaten by two men who were captured, but released on a suspended sentence. Bonasera went to Don Corleone’s home on the day of his daughter’s wedding, and asked the Godfather for justice. Corleone agreed to help Bonasera, and said that he expected Bonasera would render him a service in return. Corleone said, “Someday, and that day may never come, I will call upon you to do a service for me. But until that day, accept this justice as a gift on my daughter’s wedding day.”
