This Star Trek t-shirt features graphic poster artwork by Juan Ortiz for the series’ pilot episode titled “The Cage”. The episode was filmed in late 1964, but did not air until October 4th, 1988, long after the original series had ended.
In “The Cage”, Christopher Pike was the captain of the starship Enterprise in the year 2254, which was eleven years before James T. Kirk would become captain. In the episode, Pike was captured and tested by beings who could project realistic illusions.
